Overview
A circumcision is a minimally invasive procedure. It is an excision of penile foreskin which in turn leads to exposure of head of penis. The procedure is commonly done when the child is born and it is usually performed by OB/GYN doctors, under local anesthesia. When circumcision is done in later ages, it is performed by an urologist and under general anesthesia.
How to prepare for the procedure
A circumcision is performed under general anesthesia. It is an outpatient procedure. You can expect to start fasting the night prior to your procedure. The pre-operative testing may be necessary which may include; blood work, chest x-ray, EKG, discontinuation of medications, and clearance for other medical reasons.
