Hydrodistention of the Bladder

Overview

Hydrodistention is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure. A cystoscope will be inserted through the urethra into the bladder and saline will be infused to distend the bladder. This procedure is performed for those patients with small bladder capacity leading to urinary frequency/urgency.

How to prepare for the procedure

Hydrodistention of the bladder is performed under general anesthesia. When preparing to have a procedure performed under anesthesia you can expect to start fasting the night prior to your procedure. Please consult with your surgeon to discuss the pre-operative testing which may include; blood work, chest x-ray, EKG, discontinuation of medications, and clearance for other medical reasons. The procedure will be done at the office.
