Overview
A nuclear renal scan is a diagnostic test used to measure the function of the kidney(s). A small amount of radioisotope is injected via a vein. It will enter the bloodstream and into the kidney(s). Images of the kidney(s) with radioisotope will show how much blood is filtered thru the kidney(s) and, ultimately, this will show the level of kidney function.
How to prepare for the test
There is no special preparation used for a nuclear renal scan. It is important to notify your doctor of any medical conditions or any medications you are taking prior to the test.
