Overview
A semen analysis measures the quantity and quality of sperm. This test is used to diagnose infertility in males or to verify that a vasectomy or reversal of a vasectomy were successful. The semen analysis could include a measurement of volume, sperm count, quality of sperm, and pH levels.
How to prepare for the test
For this test you will be asked to provide a sample of semen in a sterilized container. You may be able to collect your sample at home, but it can be done in the office as well. Talk to your urologist about these options and about medical conditions or medications you are taking prior to the test.
