Overview
Urethral dilation is an office based procedure to enlarge the urethral opening. The stricture of the urethral opening can be due to infection, cyst and scar tissue. Dilation is performed with a specialized instrument which stretches the urethra. Repeated dilation may be necessary for those patients with recurrent and/or severe stricture.
How to prepare for the procedure
Urethral dilation is performed under local anesthesia. When preparing to have a procedure performed under anesthesia you can expect to start fasting the night prior to your procedure. Please consult with your surgeon to discuss the pre-operative testing which may include; blood work, chest x-ray, EKG, discontinuation of medications, and clearance for other medical reasons.
